How to make S’mores in the Air Fryer

Air Fryer S'mores on a sheet of parchment paper with marshmallows and Hershey bars

Makes 4 S’mores

Ingredients you’ll need:

  • 4 sheets of Honey Graham Crackers*
  • 4 regular marshmallows
  • 1 (1.55oz) Hershey Bar

*this will depend on the size of your air fryer. I have a 6qt air fryer, but if you have a smaller model, it may hold less graham crackers.

Steps:

Preheat your air fryer to 375°.

Break each sheet of graham crackers in half for a total of 8 graham squares. Divide your Hershey bar into four chunks (columns of three chocolate pieces per chunk).

Use a sharp knife or kitchen shears to carefully slice off one end of each marshmallow. This will make one side of the marshmallow sticky, keeping it from blowing off the graham cracker during frying. You can snack on the trimmings or reattach it to the marshmallow before frying.

Once preheated, place all 8 graham cracker squares into the air fryer.

Place one marshmallow, sticky side down on 4 of the graham cracker squares, the other 4 graham crackers will remain bare.

At this point you can reattach any marshmallow trimmings (sticky side down) to the top of the marshmallows sitting on the graham crackers.

Once the graham crackers and marshmallows are in place, air fry for 2 to 3 minutes at 375° until each marshmallow is golden brown and puffed and the graham crackers are nice and toasted.

Carefully remove the marshmallow grahams from the fryer. Place your chocolate chunks on top of the marshmallow and top with the toasted, bare graham crackers.

Repeat until all the marshmallows are topped with chocolate and graham crackers. Enjoy!

What’s the best temperature to use?

I like to set my air fryer to 375° for this recipe. It allows the marshmallows to toast evenly without the graham crackers burning. This temperature may differ depending on the air fryer model you have, so 380° would work just fine if you don’t have the 375° option. Just start checking your marshmallows and grahams around the 1 1/2 minute mark to make sure they’re not browning too quickly.

Tips for making S’mores in the Air Fryer

This recipe was tested using a 6qt Instant Vortex model. Since every air fryer model is different, temps, serving size, and cooking times may vary drastically. Below is the info you need in order to make the best batch of s’mores, in any air fryer model!

How to know when the marshmallow is cooked: the marshmallow is done when it is golden brown and puffed and the graham crackers are toasted, but not too dark. I find a temperature in the 375° range toasts the marshmallow perfectly without burning the graham crackers. Feel free to adjust the tempurature +/- 5 degrees depending on the model you have and adjust the cooking time by adding 30 seconds for lower temperatures or reducing by 30 seconds for higher temperatures.

Amount of chocolate: this is entirely based on preference, but the easiest measurement is to break a standard size (1.55oz) Hershey bar into 4 chunks–columns of 3 rectangles. If you’re using a king sized Hershey Bar, I use chunks made up of 2 rectangles, since they’re bigger. But measure with your heart. It’s worth mentioning that a standard Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup fits perfectly on a s’more. Do what you will with that information.

Keeping the marshmallows in place: I have not had an issue with the marshmallows blowing around while cooking in my Vortex air fryer, but I do realize that some models have more powerful fans. To eliminate any risk of flying ‘mallows, we cut off one end of each marshmallow–so that we have a sticky side– and adhere it to the graham cracker. As far as what happens to the end you cut off, that can either be reattached to the top of the marshmallow before frying, or enjoyed as a tasty snack while you wait for s’mores.

Making One S’more: If you’re only making one s’more, I recommend setting the timer for 1 minute vs. the 2 minutes the recipe calls for. I found that the less s’mores there are in the air fryer, the faster they cook. Reducing the cooking time will help prevent burning the graham crackers.

Storing Leftovers

Any leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days at room temp. The graham crackers will begin to soften over time, but they’ll still be delicious.

Reheating S’mores

Leftovers can be reheated in the air fryer to get them nice and warm and gooey again! Simply set the air fryer to 375° and warm for 30-90 seconds until melty.

Variations

Just like at the campfire, you can swap out the graham crackers and chocolate to match your taste! Here are some fun variations to try at your next s’mores extravaganza:

  • Use a peanut butter cup in place of the Hershey’s chocolate
  • Caramel or Rolos can replace the chocolate too
  • Chocolate graham crackers would be delightful for the chocoholic in your life
  • Spread a little cookie butter, peanut butter, or Nutella on the warmed bare graham cracker before placing it on top of the marshmallow
  • Add thinly sliced fruit like bananas or strawberries to the marshmallow and chocolate, after frying
