Strawberry cold foam is a lightly whipped, strawberry cream topping that sits on top of iced coffee drinks. In this recipe, I use a secret ingredient that saves a ton of time and adds a creamy, fruity layer that slowly blends into your drink as you sip.

A glass jar filled with iced coffee is topped with a thick layer of strawberry cream and garnished with a fresh strawberry.

Over the years I’ve had a lot of fun recreating Starbucks favorites in my own kitchen, from Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Foam and Pumpkin Cold Foam to bakery-style treats like Starbucks Lemon Loaf and Cinnamon Pull Apart Bread. It’s a simple way to get a sweet without leaving the house.

This strawberry cold foam recipe has been tested several times to make sure the foam froths thick and floats beautifully on your drink. With just four simple ingredients (and no syrup to make), it comes together in about a minute, perfect for when you need a pick-me-up in between packing lunches or hopping on a Zoom call.

Fresh strawberries are one of the best parts of summer here in Maine, but the season is short. Sometimes in the middle of winter, you just want a little taste of summer without waiting until July.

Why You’ll Love Making Starbucks Strawberry Cold Foam at Home

  • No syrup to make. Many recipes require cooking strawberries first. This version skips that step and uses prepared strawberry jam instead to add concentrated berry flavor and natural sweetness without watering down the foam.
  • Heavy cream guarantees a thick foam. The heavy whipping cream helps the foam whip up thick and stable so it floats nicely on top of iced coffee.
  • No need for special equipment. I’ve tested this recipe using several methods, and it works with a handheld frother, an immersion blender, or just shaking vigorously in a jar!
  • Ready in just a minute. Before you know it, you’ll be sipping on a Starbucks treat from the comfort of your own home!

Ingredients You’ll Need

A jar of strawberry jam, a bottle of strawberry low-fat milk, and a carton of heavy whipping cream are placed on a countertop.
  • Strawberry jam – use a good quality or homemade strawberry jam so that you have a true strawberry flavor. If you’re using a prepared jam from the grocery store, get seedless for a smoother consistency.
  • Low-fat strawberry milk or low-fat milk – I love using strawberry milk in this foam. It adds a pretty pink color and extra strawberry flavoring. If you can’t find strawberry milk, go ahead and use 1% or 2% milk instead.
  • Heavy whipping cream – this does all the heavy lifting and makes a soft, creamy, and sturdy foam.
  • Pure vanilla extract – the vanilla adds a little warmth and flavor to the strawberry foam. It also helps to mellow out the sweetness of the jam.

Tip: Go easy on the vanilla. Most vanilla extracts contain alcohol in them, and that can keep cream from whipping properly. So make sure to measure the vanilla accurately for the best results.

How to Make Strawberry Cold Foam

Step 1

A hand pours pink liquid from a bottle into a measuring spoon over a glass jar, with a carton of heavy whipping cream in the background.
A hand pours cream from a carton into a tablespoon over an empty glass jar, with some cream already inside the jar.

Add all ingredients to a pint-sized mason jar. Use a fork or small whisk to loosen the jam.

Step 2

Froth with a handheld or countertop frother for 30-45 seconds. The foam should be thick and fluffy.

A hand holds a glass filled with pink liquid while a handheld milk frother mixes the contents.

Step 3

Fill a large glass with ice and your coffee, chai, or matcha.

Pour the strawberry cold foam over your drink of choice and enjoy immediately.

Tips & Tricks

  • Use cold ingredients. Cold milk and cream whip faster and create a thicker foam.
  • Tools for making the foam: My favorite tool is a handheld frother. It creates tiny bubbles that make the foam smooth and stable. If you don’t have one, use a small blender, immersion blender, or shake everything in a jar for 60–90 seconds until thick.
  • Go light on the vanilla. Too much vanilla extract can prevent the cream from whipping properly, leaving you with a runny foam.

Ways to Serve Strawberry Cold Foam

This foam is fruity and sweet on just about anything! I’ve tested it on both hot and cold drinks and found that it works on hot coffee but holds up better on iced beverages.

Strawberry Cold Foam Cold Brew or Iced Coffee

Fill a glass with ice and cold brew or iced coffee, then spoon the strawberry cold foam over the top. The bold coffee flavor balances the sweet strawberry foam perfectly.

Strawberry Cold Foam Vanilla Latte

Make an iced vanilla latte with espresso, milk, and vanilla syrup, then add the strawberry cold foam on top. Vanilla and strawberry are a classic combination.

Strawberry White Chocolate Latte

Stir a little white chocolate sauce into an iced latte, then top with strawberry cold foam. The sweet white chocolate and strawberry together taste a lot like strawberries and cream.

Matcha With Strawberry Cold Foam

Add the foam to an iced matcha latte for a creamy strawberry-and-matcha drink that’s both earthy and sweet.

Vanilla Chai With Strawberry Cold Foam

Top an iced chai latte with strawberry cold foam for a fruity twist on a spiced drink.
