Ingredients for Maple Latte
This homemade maple latte recipe only calls for a few simple ingredients you are certain to have in your kitchen!

- Brewed Espresso Shot or Hot Strong Coffee
- Maple Syrup – be sure to use real maple syrup for the best tasting results
- Milk – whole milk or non-dairy milk can be used
- Sea Salt or Cinnamon – optional, but nice sprinkled on top
- Milk Frother – either a countertop version, handheld frother, or a whisk. I love the battery operated handheld frother and that’s usually what I reach for when I make Vanilla Cold Foam or Eggnog Latte in the winter.
What is the Best Maple Syrup to Use?

In recipe testing, I used Grade A dark maple syrup. This will give you a rich and “robust” flavor to your coffee.
However, different levels and grades of maple syrup vary in intensity. But any pure maple syrup from Maine and Vermont is delicious! Do not use pancake syrup!
Step by Step Instructions
This easy hot maple latte is made in just 3 simple steps.
Step 1

Add espresso (or strong hot coffee) and maple syrup to a mug and stir to combine.
Step 2
If using a countertop milk frother, froth ½ cup of milk per the instructions on your machine.

If you’re using a handheld frother (like me!) or a whisk, heat the milk in the microwave for one minute or in a small saucepan on the stovetop over medium heat until steaming (140-145 degrees F), but not boiling.

Whisk vigorously or use the battery operated frother to whip the warm milk until thick and foamy and doubled in size (about 45-60 seconds).
Step 3

Pour the frothed creamy milk over the hot coffee and sprinkle with flaky sea salt or a pinch of cinnamon for a maple cinnamon latte if desired.

Top Tip
If heating the milk on the stovetop or in the microwave, make sure it doesn’t come to a boil. Boiling won’t let the milk foam properly!
How to Make an Iced Maple Latte
Brew your coffee over some ice cubes and stir in the maple syrup. Froth cold milk for about 45-60 seconds until thick and foamy. Pour the frothed milk over the cold coffee for a delicious iced maple latte.
You can also use premade cold brew coffee for this!
Substitutions & Alterations
- Dairy free milk can be used. I’ve tested this recipe with both oat milk and almond milk and the results have been delicious! Make sure to choose “barista blends” or extra creamy versions for better frothing. Regular almond milk is too thin and didn’t foam well, so opt for the extra creamy type of milk.
- Swap espresso for tea. Strong hot chai tea can be used instead of espresso for a maple chai latte.

Tips & Tricks
- Add the maple syrup to the hot coffee for better mixing.
- You can also add some different flavors to your coffee like a little vanilla extract for maple vanilla lattes or a dash of ginger powder for a maple gingerbread latte.
How to Serve
You can serve this maple latte hot or iced. The flavor of the coffee pairs really well with:
FAQs
No, pancake syrup is maple flavored corn syrup while pure maple syrup is sap from a maple tree that has been reduced to a syrup. If you don’t have access to real maple syrup, make my vanilla syrup and add a teaspoon or two (to taste) of maple flavor extract.
Yes! Use ½ a cup of hot strong coffee in the place of espresso. You can even swap in decaf for a caffeine-free version ( I do that in the afternoons!)
Whole milk, if you’re on the dairy or u0022Barista Blendu0022 oat milk, is my number one milk of choice. See the substitutions section above for more non dairy milk tips.
